Fenn, who is 89 years old, wanted the treasure hunt to encourage people to explore the wild and go on an exciting adventure to find riches.
For more than ten years, treasure hunters from around the globe have been searching the Rocky Mountains for the Treasure Chest buried by eccentric millionaire Forrest Fenn. The chest holds gold nuggets, rare coins, jewelry, and gemstones.
Hunters have been using a 24-line poem from Fenn’s 2010 autobiography “The Thrill of the Chase” and a map with clues like “The Goonies” movie to find a treasure. The person who found it doesn’t want their name mentioned and is from the East.
This news will bring sadness to many who quit their jobs and spent all their money searching for the treasure. Unfortunately, at least four people died while on the hunt.
Fenn mentioned in 2017 that the chest weighs 20 pounds, and its contents weigh another 22 pounds. He delivered the chest to its hiding place by himself during two separate trips.
