Animals That Were Scarier Than Dinosaurs

4. Birds: Feathers, Height, And Deadly Strikes

After the extinction of dinosaurs, the Terror Birds emerged as the top land predators in South America. Towering up to 10 feet tall, these prehistoric feathered beasts possessed trex-like feet and a hooked beak capable of severing a horse’s spinal cord with a single blow. With few competing predators, they feasted on a variety of plant-munching animals that populated South America. Equipped with a pickaxe-like beak, they struck downward to crack the skulls of their prey. Their bony heads also acted as giant meat tenderizers, while their clawed feet delivered lethal kicks.
